Accountability and looking to the future

While we get jerked around once again by Paymar as he dithers around and delays setting a time for this evening’s hearing in the Public Safety Committee, it’s time to hold people accountable for their actions (or inaction) and look to the future.

We need to be willing to make the commitment, and mean it, that we will do everything in our power to not only unseat the politicians who’ve blatantly tried to strip us of our rights, but also unseat those who acquiesce to the proposed infringements by saying nothing or who vote in favor of the infringements in committees or on the floor.

Not to single out Rep. Debra Hilstrom (40B DFL), but if she is truly our friend and was duped along with the rest of us by Paymar, then she needs speak up loudly and clearly, as do the out-state or metro DFLers who are opposed to this legislation.

Many of us may not be in the districts of the politicians who’ve attempted to infringe on our rights, but we can certainly contribute time, money and resources to their opponents or toward efforts to unseat them. And it’s time to tell them that. (And tell your own reps, too).

Here's the letter I just sent to Reps Shannon Savick, Erik Simonson, Debra Hilstrom, John Ward, Steve Simon (all on the Public Safety Committee):

Letter sent March 21, 2013

Greetings Representatives,

I am appalled at the actions of Rep. Paymar in the last few days, as well as over the course of the MN gun hearings.

His actions, including underhanded delay tactics, lying to and bullying Rep. Hilstrom over HF 237, keeping the good citizens of Minnesota in the dark and jerking them around at the hearing Tuesday, not setting a time for this evening's hearing, and now his admission that he fully intends to insert gun registration (thinly veiled as UBC) into a bill on the House floor after he lied on Tuesday saying it was off the table, are simply abominable. Not to mention the fact that he even entertained the rights-stripping bills that we've seen over the last few weeks, and not holding Rep. Alice Hausman accountable for her disappearing act at the first set of hearings. Inexcusable.

Is this how you want your party represented? I can tell you that the developments in the Minnesota and federal legislatures have awakened and unified lawful gun owners and 2A supporters in the state of Minnesota. We are organized and we're ready to take down the DFL in flames over these actions in coming elections.

It's time for you to take a stand and separate yourself from the faction in the DFL party, like Paymar, Lesch, Schoen, Latz, Davnie, Hausman, et al, who are pushing extremist legislation and who are trying to punish and infringe upon the good citizens of the state of Minnesota.

I expect you to take a stand.
