Des Moines columnist calls for repeal of Second Amendment, death of gun owners

On Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, the Des Moines Register published a hate-speech filled rant from a retired columnist which called for, among other things, the abolition of the Second Amendment, declaring the NRA a terrorist organization, tying Republican leaders to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and dragging them around a parking lot, and calling for the death of law abiding gun owners who refuse to give up their guns.

The Des Moines Register's publishing of this piece is unconscionable. As of Jan. 1, 2013, the Des Moines Register has failed to issue an apology or retraction for publishing the threat-filled rant, and no civic or city leader has stepped forward to condemn the DMR's actions and ask for a retraction.

MN-RKBA calls for a boycott of the Des Moines Register and all of its advertisers until such time as an apology or retraction is issued, and MN-RKBA calls for a moratorium on visits to Des Moines and/or spending any money within the city of Des Moines until an apology or retraction is issued.

This type of hate-speech and threats against law abiding gun owners who are doing nothing more than exercising their Constitutional rights is unconscionable and unacceptable.

MN-RKBA response to the Des Moines Register

“We are stunned and appalled that your paper would publish, as if it were acceptable, the kind of hate speech spewed by Donald Kaul on Dec. 29. We challenge you, Donald Kaul or any other knee-jerk extremist to provide any stats on NRA members who've gone on mass murder shooting sprees.

The FACT has been proven that legal gun owners are MORE law abiding than the gen pop by a wide margin. Your publishing of this piece of tripe amounts to encouraging hate, hate-speech and hate crimes against law abiding people who've done nothing wrong.

We expect an apology from your paper for publishing this hate-speech as if it were acceptable and we will be contacting every one of your advertisers to let them know how disgusted we are. And we will be encouraging our thousands of fans and friends to do the same.

We are the 99.9% and we call you out for promoting and furthering the witch hunt against law abiding citizens.”
