Call out race-baiting and ridiculousness

posted Apr 6, 2013, 11:44 AM by Ronnie V

Action Item: Call out race-baiting and ridiculousness

Keith Ellison’s sidekick V.J. Smith (Mad Dads) made some ridiculous and race-baiting statements to the media following Ellison’s Thursday town hall meeting on gun violence.
Video: http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/story/21886434/ellison-holds-town-hall-on-common-sense-gun-safety-laws

Quotes:
V.J. Smith: “Where are those guns coming from? We don’t have any African Americans that I know who manufacture guns, and we don’t have any African Americans that I know that sell ammunition.”
(What the hell does that even mean?)

V.J. Smith: “We can’t keep trying to arrest away this problem.”
(Interpretation: Let’s not hold the criminals accountable, let’s go after the rights of the easy targets… law abiding citizens).

V.J. Smith: "It's critical right now that we do something, not only based on what the president's doing, but also based upon it's getting warm and when it gets warm, we see things happen."
(How will anything proposed stop what’s happens when it gets warm?)

Also reported in the story: V.J. Smith stands in favor of strict gun registration (universal background checks) and “assault weapons” bans.
(Will the people responsible for the murders and gun crimes in his neighborhood be lining up for their background checks? Will they be registering or giving up their “assault weapons”?)

Contact V.J. Smith and Keith Ellison and tell them to stop the use of race-baiting and targeting law abiding citizens. Tell them to focus on the real problem and hold criminals accountable.

MN-RKBA calls for moratorium on travel/spending in CO

posted Mar 20, 2013, 7:19 PM by Ronnie V   [ updated Mar 22, 2013, 2:07 PM ]

As of today, TwinCities Gun Owners & Carry Forum /Minnesotans for theRight to Keep & Bear Arms calls on all 2A/liberty supporters, gun owners, hunters and sports men and women in the state of Minnesota to observe a moratorium on all travel to Colorado and a boycott on spending any money in that state for the indefinite future.

"Colorado Governor Signs Landmark Gun Bills. Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper signed bills that require background checks for private and online gun sales and ban ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds."

I realize that the innocent residents and businesses in Colorado will be the ones to suffer for the reckless actions of their elected leaders, but that's the unfortunate unintended consequence of their actions. And similar to what's happening in NY, the CO residents are going to have to rise up in revolt.

Magpul has announced it's leaving CO and some CO sheriffs have announced thatthey won't enforce the new laws and a lawsuit has been filed by CO sheriffs who say they were ignored during the debate process. (Another story on the sheriff's lawsuit.)

If you plan on canceling plans or spending, be sure to let the businesses know (so they can contact their reps) and also contact the CO governor and tell him.

posted Mar 12, 2013, 10:54 AM by Ronnie V   [ updated Mar 12, 2013, 10:55 AM ]

Sen. Ron Latz, Senate Judiciary Committee, will hold a public hearing on Thursday, March 14 at 6 p.m. in Room 15 Capitol. Please plan to attend. We need all gun rights supporters in attendance. Public testimony will be very limited, but we need a show of numbers.

Text of the bill is being amended as "delete all" and is not yet available. Watch here and our Facebook page for updates as soon as the text is available.

Contact your own representatives and the Senate Judiciary Committee members, below, and ask them to oppose SF 458 (and House bill HF 237), and ask them to support Rep. Debra Hilstrom's crime prevention bill HF 1325, which goes after criminals instead of law abiding gun owners.

Rep. Paymar refuses to grant hearing on "Alternate" bi-partisan crime prevention bill

posted Mar 7, 2013, 7:21 AM by Ronnie V   [ updated Mar 12, 2013, 10:55 AM ]

Action Items:
Rep. Debra Hilstrom (40B DFL) announced her bi-partisan supported anti-crime bill on Wednesday, HF 1323. The bill is supported and co-authored by over 70 bi-partisan legislators. Rep. Michael Paymar (64B DFL), chair of the House Public Safety Committee, has stated that he will refuse to grant a hearing for the bill. Paymar is the chief author of the unsupported and extremist gun control omnibus bill HF 237, that targets and punishes law abiding citizens.

We need to stay and keep Rep. Michael Paymar's phone ringing until he grants a hearing on HF 1323. Call Paymar's office at 651-296-4199, Demand that he grant Rep. Debra Hilstrom a hearing on HF 1323, and that he withdraw his unsupported and extremist gun control omnibus bill HF 237.

HF 1323 is a bi-partisan sponsored and NRA-approved bill that addresses fixes for our current NICS system to require timely and accurate reporting of criminal convictions, mental health and chemical abuse commitment data, provides for increased penalties for certain gun crimes and creates a lifetime prohibition on firearm ownership for perpetrators of certain violent domestic felonies.

HF 1323:

Hilstrom bi-partisan press conference Wed., March 6, 2013:

Additionally, there was virtually no visible support from local police chiefs at the Hilstrom bi-partisan press conference on HF 1323. Following the press conference, Rep. Tony Cornish (23B R) made the following request to please contact your police chiefs and ask them why they weren't in attendance to show support for the bi-partisan supported bill that proposes meaningful action to reduce violence with guns:

"Can my friends do me a favor? Please call your local Chief of Police and ask to leave a message with his/her personal assistant or his/her answering machine? Please leave a message that asks why he/she was not there today in support of [HF 1323]? The Sheriffs were there, but a news media person asked why the Chiefs weren't there, as there is nothing objectionable to law enforcement [in the bill]. It only helps them go after the bad guys. Please Re Post and Thanks Very Much. The Conf went very well. Mankato Chief of Police is one of the supporters, however."

Call out hypocrisy: Minneapolis City Council

posted Feb 21, 2013, 9:05 AM by Ronnie V

Action Item: Call out hypocrisy, Minneapolis City Council

While the Minneapolis City Council continues to lobby their extremist gun control agenda to Minnesota and federal legislators, their own Dept. of Intergovernmental Relations is recommending that the city council support the federal “Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act” in their federal legislative agenda.

FACTS:

--On Feb. 12, 2013, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (MN-BCA) released a report that in 2012 domestic homicides dropped to the lowest number in more than two decades,

http://www.mcbw.org/sites/www.mcbw.org/files/2012%20FEMICIDEREPORT%20%20FINAL.pdf

(Not reported in local “mainstream” media by the way. Media bias and hypocrisy.)

--On Feb. 15, 2013, The Hennepin County Sheriff released a report that violent crime has decreased countywide by 37% from 2006 to 2012.

http://southwestminneapolis.patch.com/articles/sheriff-violent-crime-down-37-percent-in-hennepin-county

(Not reported in local “mainstream” media by the way. Media bias and hypocrisy.)

****The correlation between the decrease in domestic homicide and violent crimes amid an increase in lawful firearms ownership and women obtaining firearms and permits to carry cannot be denied.

http://www.minnpost.com/christian-science-monitor/2013/02/why-gun-ownership-among-us-women-climbing

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/11/us/rising-voice-of-gun-ownership-is-female.html?

Ask the Minneapolis City Council:

If they are truly concerned about violence against women, why, in the face of this obvious evidence that lawful firearms ownership can be correlated to a dramatic decrease in domestic homicide and violent crime, they continue to push their extremist gun control agenda which would effectively put women in grave danger and would likely reverse these positive statistics.

Police Officers Federation of Mpls speaks out against RT Rybak's bully tactics

posted Feb 16, 2013, 9:21 AM by Ronnie V   [ updated Feb 16, 2013, 9:36 AM ]

We posted a letter received from the president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis which was highly critical of Minneapolis mayor RT Rybak's recent bully tactics and threats made to hard-working, law abiding firearms and ammunition manufacturers. We've also learned that the POFM is in opposition to the extremist gun control bills being proposed in the Minnesota legislature. Keep watching for more developments on this issue.

Please copy/paste the letter, below, to your representatives and to the House Public Safety Committee, and to the Senate Judiciary Committee (which has gun control hearing scheduled for Feb. 21 - 22). Email lists at right.

Letter from the Police Officers Federation Minneapolis

EXCLUSIVE: I've been given permission to publish the following letter from John Delmonico, President – Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis (it was submitted to the Star Tribune as an opinion piece, but they refused to publish it).

***

R. T. Rybak Chases the Bandwagon
By John Delmonico, President – Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis

In his haste to jump on the gun control bandwagon before it leaves town, Mayor R. T. Rybak is using rank–and–file Minneapolis police officers as pawns. An article from the Star Tribune on 1/31/13 relayed that, “Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak said Wednesday that he and leaders of other cities across the country plan to meet with major U.S. companies that supply guns and ammunition to municipal police forces and press them to stop supporting efforts to block gun control.”

R. T. has decided put economic pressure on gun and ammunition makers. His plan involves threatening to take the city’s business elsewhere if the companies don’t agree to support his political agenda.

Mayor Rybak says he hopes to learn whether the manufacturers “are working with us or working against us” to achieve gun control measures. “I believe we should put our money where our mouth is,” he explained to a city council committee.

While it’s nice to see the mayor finally acknowledging the power of the free market, putting the police department in turmoil, risking the safety of police officers and potentially making the city liable for millions of dollars in lawsuits is a bad idea.

First the city has little influence with gun manufacturers, because individual officers choose their weapons from a list of approved suppliers. No single gun manufacturer gets all the business anyway and replacing all the existing weapons would be incredibly expensive.

The department does buy all its ammunition from Minnesota–based Federal Cartridge Company. Each year spending approximately $600,000, buying both qualification and duty ammo from the company. Each of the 900 handguns in the department is zeroed in on Federal cartridges to insure the accuracy of the weapon. The same is true for all long guns.

The department has been using Federal ammunition for over ten years because it is accurate and reliable and has proven safe and dependable during situations that were literally life and death.

Even changing the department’s ammunition supplier would require recalibrating every weapon, requiring thousands of man hour man hours that the city can’t afford. Choosing a supplier based on whether they will succumb to political pressure is problematic anyway, but even more so when the decision may impact the safety of officers and civilians. And should we just dump the current inventory of Federal cartridges because the Mayor wants to make a political point?

Ironically, the mayor may soon discover that his leverage with Federal is non–existent. Currently the company has a production backlog that amounts to millions of dollars. Wal–Mart sells more Federal ammunition in a day than the Minneapolis Police Department buys in a year. The MPD is a tiny customer and it is a tribute to Federal’s customer service and friendship with the department that we get our ammunition without a wait.

Destroying this long–term relationship so the mayor can add to his “legacy” would be a terrific waste.

Instead, the POFM advocates taking the advice of a coalition of Minnesota law enforcement officials and concentrate on five areas where civilian and law enforcement leaders can make a difference.

This includes:
--Improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
--Provide Law enforcement access to already public court mental health records.
--Improve the procedures for inmate competency and civil commitment evaluations and treatment.
--Review Minnesota’s Civil Commitment Law.
--Assess the in-patient and out-patient psychiatric resources available to serve the mentally ill in Minnesota, including those in the criminal justice system.

Making these changes will have an immediate impact in Minneapolis and be far more effective than more publicity stunts and feel–good legislation.

The Star Tribune itself said, “complete, reliable information is the best weapon against crime and the best safeguard for the public and police.” The 850 members of the POFM could not agree more.

House Public Safety Committee

Please copy/paste the POFM letter to the entire House Public Safety Committee along with your own comments expressing the following message:

***Point out that the WORKING COPS aren't asking for window dressing like Evil Black Rifle bans, Standard Capacity Magazine bans, or Gun Registration (disguised as an end to private gun sales). They don't want "something." They want effective measures targeted at potential problems and people, not at gun owners.

Contact arms & ammo mfgs: Stop gov't sales in states that ban guns

Please take action described below.

At least seven firearms manufacturers/suppliers have implemented new policies refusing to sell arms to state or government agencies and LEOs where extremist gun control legislation has been implemented. We need all of the manufacturers and suppliers to take the same stand with the objective of stopping the egregious legislation in its tracks.

MINNESOTANS FOR THE RIGHT TO KEEP & BEAR ARMS calls for American gun owners to contact the following arms and ammunition manufacturers and STRONGLY URGE them to band together and discontinue sales to government agencies in the state of Minnesota and other states where extremist gun control legislation is being proposed or enacted.

Please note: Be polite, respectful and appreciative in your requests! These are good companies that we want to convince to take a stand against the proposed Minnesota and national bans. KEEP YOUR MESSAGE SHORT AND TO THE POINT, long dissertations will likely not be read. Please contact ALL of the companies below, including the last five that have already established a policy against sales to New York government and LEO agencies.

SUGGESTED MESSAGE: If it can’t be sold to citizens, please don't sell to state and local governments that support or have enacted extremist gun control laws.

Stand with law abiding gun owners against gun control legislation

RE: Please implement a policy to cease sales to state and government agencies where extremist gun control legislation has been proposed or enacted. We're at a critical turning point in America. We need you!

Greetings,

You are a respected leader in the firearms industry. On behalf of the 2,000,000++ law abiding firearms owners in Minnesota (and the 80,000,000+ in America) I urge you to stand with us in opposition to the extremist legislation being proposed in Minnesota and other states (as well as federally). Your customers, the law abiding firearms owners in America, are being scapegoated as "the problem" and will be the ones to suffer if these over-reaching and unConstitutional laws are enacted.

At least six national manufacturers/suppliers have already issued new policy decisions to refuse sales to state agencies where extremist gun control legislation has been enacted. Please take this stand now. Your strong stand will have a good chance of helping to stop proposed legislation in MN and other states, and may help to reverse recent laws already enacted (NY).

In Minneapolis MN, the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis has taken a stand against the extremist legislation proposed and the bully tactics used by our local administration to try and threaten businesses like yours with sanctions:

We're counting on you. Please stand with us.

Demand that Rep. Alice Hausman withdraw extremist "gun ban" bills

posted Feb 14, 2013, 8:12 AM by Ronnie V

Action Item: Operation Extreme Pressure
If you haven't yet called Rep. Alice Hausman's office to demand that she withdraw her extremist gun control, registration and confiscation bill HF 241 and her standard capacity magazine ban bills HF 242 and HF 243, please do so now, 651.296.3824.

She "authored" the bills, but did not write them, does not understand the bills and did not attend the public hearings on the bills. A paid anti-gun lobbyist wrote and presented the bills at the public hearings. Rep. Hausman has committed a gross dereliction of duty as public servant.

Demand that Hausman withdraw the bills, call 651.296.3824.
HF 241 gun ban, registration and confiscation
HF 242 standard capacity magazine ban (10 rounds)
HF 243 standard capacity magazine ban (7 rounds)

St. Paul City Council calls for statewide ban on semi-automatics

Our email to the members of the St. Paul City Council and Mayor

Dear St. Paul City Council representatives and Mayor Coleman,

We are shocked and appalled to hear that you would like to punish and strip the rights of law abiding citizens in your specious and misguided quest for the illusion of safety.

If you are seeking to lessen violence committed with guns and implement “reform” measures, you need to focus on the real issues: Our failed criminal justice system and our failed ability to address the mental illness problem in this country. The 99.9% of firearms owners in the US who are law abiding are not the problem, and will be the ones to suffer the grave consequences of any mis-identified scapegoat and any mis-directed “reforms.”

In fact, research has shown that legal gun owners are MORE law abiding than the gen pop by a wide margin (5.7 times less likely to be arrested for a violent offense and 13.5 times less likely to be arrested for a non-violent offense like DWI, etc. Those numbers reach to 15 – 20 times less likely for Minnesota permit holders). Please do the research before you take knee-jerk, misdirected action. (Learn the facts: http://www.gunfacts.info/pdfs/gun-facts/6.1/gun_facts_6_1_screen.pdf)

We must stop erroneously focusing on the “inanimate object,” the gun. It’s pretty simple: Our focus needs to be on the assailants – those people who commit violence because of criminal propensity and/or mental instability. The worst schoolhouse mass murder in our nation's history was not committed with a gun, but with explosives. Some of the worst atrocities in our recent history, such as the Oklahoma City Bombing or the 9/11 attacks, did not involve a single firearm.

A New York woman beat her husband to death with a coffee cup a few months ago. We wouldn't dream of describing that act as "coffee cup violence," nor would we consider banning coffee cups, would we? No, we wouldn't. Evil will always be present, and deranged people intent on harm will always find another tool with which to inflict harm. Banning every implement that deranged people or criminals use to carry out mayhem is not the answer.

We do not need more laws or the vanquishing of the rights of law abiding citizens. We need to enforce the laws that already exist to punish law breakers and those who harm others, and we need to place blame and solutions where it needs to be placed: Criminal justice and sentencing reform; and mental health reform. Plus, we all know that history has proven time after time that “gun bans” don’t work (Chicago has some of the strictest firearm laws in the country, yet they are a leader in violence and shootings).

We urge you to remember the basis on which this country was founded in the rich tradition of liberty, and ask you to be the voice of the 80,000,000 of us who exhibit the true face of law abiding “gun culture” in America. We will not stand by and be treated like criminals for doing nothing wrong.
